Are you looking for a true blue, fair dinkum Aussie
experience?
Well we’ve got some good as gold holiday ideas to get you
off the beaten track and onto a real Australian adventure.
Visit the Outback
Australia
Away from the hustle and bustle of Australia’s major cities
(Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane) you’ll find yourself in what Australian’s like
to call “God’s country”.
Australia is the biggest island in the world and the
smallest continent and has a landmass of 7,617,930 square kilometres – that’s a
lot of country! There are a whopping 17 World Heritage Sites, so there’s so
much beautiful nature to take in it’s hard to know where to start.
By visiting the outback of Australia you will not only have
unique stories to tell and a great memory but you’ll see a side of Australia
that not all get to see.
Kakadu National Park
There are many places to visit in the outback of Australia,
such as the Kakadu National Park located near Darwin, which spans across almost
20,000 square kilometers. It’s a World Heritage area due to its natural
beauties and its cultural links to the Aboriginal owners of the land the
Bininj/ Mungguy people.
Here you’ll find spectacular Aboriginal rock art, exquisite
flora and fauna and lush wetlands. The best time to visit is between May and
September as the weather is not too hot! If you go after October you’ll be in
for a scorcher and often from December to April there’s flooding.
A good tip for anyone visiting areas around the Northern
Territories: don’t swim in the waters because you never know if a crocodile
will be lurking beneath!
Channel Country
Further down south predominantly in Queensland is the
Channel Country, whichis home to some amazing walking trails through authentic
Australian bush land that hasn’t been affected by humans.
In the Channel Country there are ancient flood plains,
billabongs and lakes, as well as three prominent rivers the Georgina and
Diamantina Rivers and Cooper Creek. You’ll find that many rivers are surrounded
by beautiful river red gums and eucalyptus trees – quite a beautiful sight!
Each spot you visit in the outback will give you different
opportunities for some real Aussie activities; snorkeling, scuba diving,
fishing, surfing, rock climbing, abseiling, jungle surfing…you name it
Australia has it!
Simpson Desert
National Park
While you’re in Channel Country you’ll probably be advised
by locals to visit the Simpson Desert, which spans across 200,000 square
kilometres over Central Australia. This is barren harsh land with incredible
panoramic views of sand dunes, which can be as tall as 20 metres!
There are animals to be found like the spinefex, lizards,
marsupials and over 180 bird species. While this is a true Aussie experience, be warned this expedition
requires a 4WD and sufficient supplies.
Heading down under? Australia is an incredible place to
visit with majestic rainforests, lush flood plains and epic deserts. Whatever
route you decide to take make sure it’s off the beatin track and a true blue
Aussie experience!
