On the Pacific coast of South America you can find the Andes
mountain range, which is one of the best skiing resorts in the world. Argentina
and Chile enjoy wide popularity among tourists who are fond of skiing. If you
are eager to find snow in the height of summer season, the Andes is the right
place for you. From June till September these resorts attract thousands of
powder hounds, who can not imagine their lives without skiing even in summer.
In spite of the fact that South America is very popular with
the tourists from all over the world,
it is still getting well after the eruption of Chile’s
Puyehue volcano in 2011. At the very beginning of a ski season these unforeseen
circumstances held up the endless stream of tourists to South America. But now
the things are going right, and all the keen snowboarders and skiers are
welcome here. The 2013 skiing season is going to be open. You have only to
choice the right region.
One of the most popular ski resorts in South America is
Nevados de Chillan. It is situated not far from Santiago. The territory of the
resort is about 10,000 hectares of ground suitable for skiing. Here you can
find the longest and the most famous run in South America. The length of this
run is 13km. Besides the skiers have a wonderful opportunity to admire the
picturesque scenery in the mountains.
Here you can stay in the Gran Hotel or the Hotel Nevados de Chillan. In these hotels the tourists can find different thermal and spa pools and enjoy the healing volcanic waters.
Las Lenas ski resort in Argentina is also very popular. It
is rather expensive, but it is considered to be one of the best in the country.
Many of the professional skiers prefer this very resort for their training.
Here is the real paradise for extreme skiers.
The Aries Hotel, Virgo Hotel and Acuario Hotel are the
top-notch hotels providing luxe for the tourists.
After a wonderful skiing day the tourists have a great
opportunity to go on a excursion in the outskirts of the resort. At the foot of
Andes the famous Mendoza’s wine region is situated, where you can taste red
wine made from the Malbec grape. Not far from Las Lenas there are great
wineries, where the tourists can taste different sorts of wine. The most
remarkable wineries are Bodega Catena Zapata and Bodegas Nieto Senetiner.
The Ski Paradise
Bariloche
San Carlos de Bariloche is situated in Argentina’s Patagonia
Lake District. In summer this resort is suitable for trekkers, and in winter it
enjoys popularity with skiers. The little town of Bariloche looks like a Swiss
ski town as it was settled by the Europeans. According to the swiss traditions
there are a lot of chocolate shops in the central street of the town.
The most enormous resort in South America is Cerro Catedral,
which is located about 20 km from the city and not far from the Nahuel Huapi
National Park. The total area of the resort is 1,200 hectares. Many skiers take
off early in the morning to enjoy the wonderful snow-white scenery.
Skiing At the Back of
Beyond
At the very end of the continent the remote resort of
Ushuaia is located. It is the capital of Argentina’s Tierra del Fuego province
and the world’s southernmost city. Here you can find the southernmost ski
resort, which is called Cerro Castor. Due to its north position a ski season is
the longest in South America. The tourists have a wonderful opportunity to ski
from the very beginning of June to the very end of September. The resort is
provided with 28 trails, where the tourists can try their strength in the art
of skiing.
If you are eager to have luxurious accommodations you can
stay in Los Cauquenes Resort and Spa on the shore of the Beagle Channel. Also
there is a small cozy Hotel Austral in the central part of the city. If the
tourists are full of high flanks of the snow hills and long trails, they are
able to go for a walk in the forests of the Tierra del Fuego National Park,
which is located within 11km from the ski resort.
Mountainside Not Far
From the City
Ski Portillo is one of the oldest ski resorts in South
America. It runs since the 1940s and offers quite good accommodations. The
resort is 3km above the sea level, where the humidity is rather low to keep the
powder in the right condition without sticking. The number of skiers on the
trails is always restricted, so they have an opportunity to carve freely. One
of the best ski schools in the world is located here.
