Thrills in Berlin

Berlin
Berlin is known for its museums and monuments, but there is a lot more to the German capital than just history. Berlin is becoming one of the hottest destinations for thrill seekers and adventurers. Why? Well here are just a few of the adventures you can go on in Berlin.

Base Flying
For the real adrenaline junkie, base flying off the 125 metre Park Inn hotel in Alexanderplatz is probably the coolest way to see Berlin’s impressive skyline. Over 10,000 brave souls have taken the plunge so far and with tickets from €49, it’s not quite as expensive as you might think.

You are strapped into a special kind of harness – the same used by stuntmen in many movies – with the whole experience thought to be better than bungee jumping because you don’t have the awkward bounce back towards the sky.

Jumping off the roof of one of Berlin’s tallest buildings may just be the best 10 seconds of your trip to Berlin.

Fun in the Forrest
Kletterwald Wuhlheide is an adventure park in Berlin for those who have never grown up. The huge centre of six challenging rope obstacle courses is perfect for adults and children looking for something a bit more energetic than yet another museum or tour.

Located in the woods at Köpenick, towards the south-east of the city, this is a must-visit for adventure seekers. The zip lines are also a lot of fun and a great test of nerves.

Explore Underground
Beneath Berlin there are many bunkers, underground tunnels and passageways left over from WWII. You can go explore them by taking an underground tour, starting from Gesundbrunnen underground station.

Take a walk around the city outdoors and you are bound to come across something of interest. Take a tour underground, though, and you’ll see just as much to interest you. The tour explores the war-time bunkers and you’ll get a feel of what it felt like to hide underground, hearing the bombing taking place overhead.

Berlin Underworlds Association run daily tours from as little as €10, making this another must-see during your time in Berlin. Be aware though – this isn’t for the claustrophobic or faint-hearted!

Kayak the Spree
What better way to get a taste – perhaps literally – for Berlin’s River Spree than by kayaking along it?
Several companies offer kayaking and canoeing tours along the river and it’s a great way to give your legs a rest and your arms a holiday workout. You can see the city’s famous attractions from a whole new angle and even get up close and personal with the Museumsinsel.

The more adventurous can build up some real speed and go a little crazy on the Spree, while the more peaceful traveller can paddle along at a leisurely pace.

And if you’re looking for somewhere to stay in the city in between your adventuring, why not take a look at the budget apartments on offer from Oh-Berlin.
