Delhi, with all its crowds can seem downright scary to a
person who is visiting it for the first time, but once you are willing to look
past the little inconveniences such as crowds Delhi doesn’t let you down. The
city has just the right mix of the old and the new, which proves to be
addictive to citizens and visitors alike. Amazing, awesome, and beautiful are
just a few adjectives that can be used to describe the city. The city is
divided into two, Old Delhi and New Delhi.
Each division provides a unique experience of its own.
Delhi trips provide
an all-round experience to visitors. Delhi has magnificent monuments like the
Red Fort, Qutub Minar and India Gate etc. There are also plenty of fine dining
and casual eateries besides being a hub for the performing arts. Getting into
Delhi is easy as the city is well connected by both land and air. During the
winters, the airport is prone to delays as heavy fog usually disrupts flights. Travelling by land is a different story altogether. The roads to Delhi are well-laid
out and surrounded by beautiful scenery. Trains are also enjoyable as you can
just sit back and take in the beautiful surroundings.
Since the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, the city has been
gleaming due to the crores of rupees that had been pumped into the city’s
infrastructure. Due to this, the already crowded ‘things to do list’ increases
a whole lot. But here are some of the things that you absolutely must do:
- Try dilli-ki-chaat. The street food sets off fireworks in your mouth which makes you want to come back for more.
- Visit the Red Fort. This magnificent red sandstone monument makes you wish that you had lived during the Mughal era.
- Visit Nizamuddin Auliya. This structure is one of the holiest tombs of Islam and you could also listen to the qawwalis sung during Thursday nights.
- For women, shop till you drop at the government emporiums on Janpath and in the narrow bazaars of Old Delhi, all the while wondering if you have wandered back in time.
- Visit the National Museum and prepare to be amazed at the collection of Indian art at the museum.
Now, here are some tips to make your trip not only fun, but
efficient and safe as well:
- Always make reservations.
- Only make enquiries at desks of ITDC and only hire licensed guides as scams are all too common in the Capital.
- Dress suitably, do not draw attention to yourself by wearing inappropriate or expensive clothes because that will cause thieves and con men to target you.
And last, but not the least, have fun!!!
